Stephen Shaw review

Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group (GDWG) reports Stephen Shaw’s long-awaited second review into immigration detention was finally published by the Home Office. Most promising so far are some of the government’s pledged actions in response, particularly a review into the need for a time limit and an alternative-to-detention pilot to run in partnership with UNHCR, enabling women who would otherwise have been detained at Yarl’s Wood to remain in the community.

More analysis, advocacy and action to follow, but some links for now.

Read the report here, the government’s response here, and an initial statement from GDWG here.

Thanks, as ever, for all your fantastic support for people detained
