Are you interested in being a Volunteer Befriender?
Santé supports refugees and asylum seekers who have social care/ health issues. Befrienders will help people to link to services, rebuild confidence, overcome practical problems such as language barriers, and better understand UK culture.
No qualifications are needed although we require a CRB check to ensure you are eligible to work with vulnerable adults. Befrienders need to be accepting, caring, good listeners and assertive.
Ability to speak a refugee language is useful but not essential. Training and support will be provided.
If you’d like to apply to be a befriender, download an application form or contact our co-ordinator, Ruth Appleton, either by email or by telephone.
Do you know someone who could benefit from our Befriending service?
The Scheme is for asylum seekers or refugees living in London, aged 17 or over, who have a mental health issue. Many of the refugees in the scheme have problems because of political or military violence they had to escape.
Individuals may apply directly to have a Befriender or be referred via a community organisation, GP, social or other support worker. For more information download a referral form or contact our Coordinator, Ruth Appleton, either by email or by telephone.
